PAINTINGS 2019

Tempera paintings from the series The Disciples. To me, painting is an intuitive and floating process and the image is born from a wordless inner perception. I try to paint the invisible and create shapes for psychological phenomena. To be able to make any paintings at all I need to be set in the right state of mind. The process is sensitive and is connected to meditation and prayer.

For these paintings I used tempera on boards that I prepared in the same way as icons have been prepared for hundreds of years - with powdered chalk, liquid animal glue and a cloth glued to the board. I learned this method at the Valamo Monastery in the north of Finland.
